Two questions that explain the price
Will a wall, floor or casing need to be opened to continue the investigation? And how complex will the work be? These are the two criteria that determine our rates.
A non-invasive investigation uses existing access points and checks that do not require opening up surfaces. An invasive investigation requires a targeted opening to progress with the diagnosis. In either case, the building’s constraints and the checks required can make the work more or less complex.
These terms describe the planned work. They are not enough to set a price from a single photo of a stain: the first conversation helps establish the details.
The four Fuites Détectives rates
| Investigation | Straightforward | Complex |
|---|---|---|
| Non-invasive | €250 excl. VAT | €400 excl. VAT |
| Invasive | €500 excl. VAT | €650 excl. VAT |
Travel is charged in addition to these amounts. The quote states the total including VAT, the scope of the investigation and the applicable terms. Repairs are quoted separately.
These are our own guide prices, rather than a general market price list. We confirm how your investigation is classified before you accept the quote.
Why seemingly similar situations can differ
Two stained ceilings may involve very different situations. In one home, the suspected pipework is accessible. In another, several visits need to be arranged, keys to a service shaft obtained and several possible water paths investigated.
The number of photos you send and the apparent size of the stain do not measure this complexity. Access, the extent of the areas to check and any openings required matter more. To help prepare the quote, tell us which rooms and neighbours are affected and what tests have already been carried out.
Equipment does not automatically mean extra charges
Thermal imaging, moisture measurements, dye tests and camera inspection each provide different information. The technician chooses the methods that are useful and may compare several findings.
We do not charge for each method separately. The quote should therefore not be read as “camera + dye + moisture meter”. What matters is the agreed investigation and what it can establish.
Any investigation outside that scope must be explained and proposed before it begins. An opening should not come as a surprise at the end of the visit.
What to check before accepting the quote
- The areas and installations included in the investigation.
- Travel charges and the total payable including VAT.
- Whether an opening may be needed and what that work includes.
- The report to be provided and when you will receive it.
- The terms for any further investigation.
- Separate arrangements for repairs and making good.
Finally, a technical quote is not confirmation of insurance cover. If you intend to claim, check the arrangements for your case with your insurer. Our guide to questions to ask your insurer helps you prepare for that conversation.
